Tubal Ligation Reversal Questions

QUESTION:

"I am considering tubal reversal but I have concerns about care after the operation. What can you tell me about that?"

ANSWER:

I am really glad when this question comes up because it raises some issues that really need mentioning.

As far as recovering from the operation, our patients have the only follow-up visit they need the day after the surgery. There are no sutures or clips to be removed. The incision that we use is only about 2 inches wide so recovery is quick and uneventful. Most of our patients can return to work in 2 days some take a week or so but that is very much the exception.

When we see our patients the morning after surgery we always tell them that we will call them on a regular basis until they get a baby or they tell us to not bother them anymore and we do. I am big on results not talk. We address fertility issues with our patients every day and we are happy to do so and never charge anyone a dime

We have noticed some centers, two in particular, making a point of their claim that ongoing care is provided. Of course it is! They did not invent caring for patients that have trusted them by choosing their center for care. We are always flattered when someone honors us by coming here and we value their patronage. The nature of doing tubal reversals is that most patients come from far enough away that is impractical for them to travel to us. To me, it is deceptive to lead people to believe that they are going to drive hundreds of miles for a pregnancy test.
